The Impact Of Downsizing On Competitiveness Of Banks In Nigeria: A Study Of Selected Banks In Makurdi Metropolis

This study sought to establish the relationship between downsizing and competitiveness of banks in Nigeria with Afribank, Union Bank, Finbank, Intercontinental Bank and Oceanic Bank as study organizations. The main problem that called for this research is that downsizing which entails workforce reduction influences or affects efficiency, profitability, and employee satisfaction of banks in Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised of 124 employees of the banks in Makurdi metropolis that were selected for the study. A sample size of 95 respondents was drawn from the study population.

Business Process Reengineering (BPR) can radically improve operational process of an organization for superior organizational performance. The main aim of this study is to investigate the BPR practices in Nigerian financial institutions. In additionally, to examines the implementation level of BPR practices in these institutions. The data collected was analyzed using the SPSS software. The finding indicates that various operational processes were redesigned as a result of adoption of BPR by those banks. Moreover, the study also shows that the banks managers have perceived that their banks are effectively implementing BPR-related factors namely I.T investment.

India is a big country with 28 states, over one billion people and 120 dialects/languages. From the market perspective, people of India comprise different segments of consumers, based on class, status, and income. Retailing in India is one of the significant contributors to the Indian economy and accounts for 35% of the GDP. However, this sector is in a fragmented state with over 12 million outlets operating in the country and only 4% of them being larger than 500sqft in size. This is in comparison to 0.9 million outlets in USA, catering to more than 13 times of the total retail market size.

A Qualitative Evaluation Of The Factors Influencing Consumer Choice Of Telephone Handset Among Students In Selected Universities In Southwestern Nigeria

The paper evaluates the factors influencing consumer choice of telephone handset among students in selected Universities in Southwestern Nigeria. The researcher utilized a focus group discussion in generating relevant data for the research. A total of six FGDS were conducted across six selected Universities in Southwestern, Nigeria. Each of the FGDs involved participants ranging between 6 and 10 persons. The questions in the FGD guide focused mainly on the factors influencing consumer choice of telephone handset among the selected pa rticipants.

The main purpose of this research is to recognize the relationship between Operating profit and labor productivity indexes on the basis of financial statements yearly published by the North Industrial Wood Firm. The type of this research method is applied for the purpose and it is a case study for the procedure, so choosing an economical unit named the North Industrial Wood Firm as a population evaluates and recognizes the relationships between independent variables and dependent variables. In this research, the dependent variable is operating profit and independent variables are labor productivity indexes. In this research, for data analysis, descriptive statistics (the mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlation test) were used.

Input Elasticities and Sources of Growth in Pakistan’s Agriculture

This paper represents an attempt at measuring input elasticities and sources of growth in agriculture sector of Pakistan using Cobb-Douglas production function. We applied OLS technique on time series data from 1972-73 to 2009-10. The main sources of productivity growth have been HYVs and fertilizer, where irrigation and credit are insignificant. Since the co-efficient of each input is less than one, therefore all variables are inelastic and indicate that efficiency of Pakistan.s agricultural sector is not satisfactory.

Several studies have drawn attention to the distinctive support needs of Entrepreneur in rural areas, particularly in the area of financial resources. Policy initiatives aimed at encouraging the formation and growth of enterprises in rural areas need to take account not only of the distinctive characteristics of the businesses in these areas (i.e. in terms of type of activity, size of the business, motivation of the entrepreneur) but also the difficulties resulting from the characteristics of the business environment itself. These might include the availability of finance, relatively small size of the local market, the limited opportunities to trade and network with other local businesses, and the small size and restricted skill base of the local labor market.

Like many other disciplines, international business theory is currently facing a change of paradigm. The aim of this paper is to highlight some challenges identified by researchers; presenting in that way the ˇ°ecosystemˇ± of foreign direct investments. It is at the core of our work that ecological ecosystems and key concepts of multinational enterprises. literature share similarities, as far as expansion, diversity and competitiveness are concerned. In this vein, it is argued that international business should revitalize its interest towards the investigation of the following issues: the nature of internationalization, the dynamic perspective of subsidiary initiative and the extent of technology centralization.

Role Of In-Store Lighting In Store Satisfaction

Lighting is a key design element that contributes to the identity, comfort and visual quality of a retail store. But we found very few studies reflecting the effect of lighting on humans in the retailing contexts. Most of these studies were done in the laboratory contexts neglecting the natural settings. This study specifically aims to fill this gap by understanding the role of in-store lighting in the formation of store satisfaction. Data for the study was collected from a groceries retailer in India. The factor and regression analyses found that store lighting which enhances the image of the store contributes more to the formation of store satisfaction than the store lighting which enhances appeal of the store.

Total Quality Management and Customer service delivery: A study of Generator Assembly Plants in Nigeria

This paper objective is to examine total quality management (TQM) relationship with service delivery in generator assembly plants in Nigeria. The research was conducted by collecting primary data with questionnaire which was administered on the employees of the two firms, Mikano and JMG who are involved with the assembly of electric generators. Descriptive statistical tools were used to analyse the data collected which revealed that the firms rated the used TQM to improve quality and productivity more than to enhance service delivery. The result shows that TQM enhance service delivery and contributed to growth of the firms. Service delivery should be the focus of TQM which will lead to greater growth than the current ones being experienced.

Attention to issues related to supply chain and marketing of our relationship is important, and in the long-term relationship with the suppliers of raw materials should also be considered, because the argument for providing superior customer value is the final. The concept of consent in most research has focused in more on the final consumer, while this paper examines the concept of industrial suppliers and buyers. In this paper, the factors determining the relationships between companies (industrial buyers) and suppliers are identified. The main objective of this research, the concept of satisfaction in the supply chain from the perspective of industrial buyers.

The Concept of Indigenous Sports and Games in Tribal India: The Case of the Dongria Kondhs

The relevance of Sports and Games in Tribal Communities of India has been one of the least researched domains in the sphere of Tribal Studies. The present paper analyzes the traditional and indigenous sports and games being played by the Youths of Dongria Kondh community and their socio-cultural significance. The formulation of this paper is based on collection of empirical data, interaction with community members and first hand observations made by the Researcher. Dongria Kondhs do not view sports and games as a mere source of entertainment but also believe that they contribute towards the mental growth and help in enhancing the general awareness level of the children. Most of the games played by the Community has a hidden implication and indirectly contributes towards augmentation of the existing skill levels of the community members.

Capital Reforms And Performance Of Nigerian Banking Sector

This study examines the capital base of Nigerian banks after the consolidation exercise of 2005 and describes the effect of recapitalisation on the performance of Nigerian banks. Secondary data for this study were sourced from the banks annual reports and financial statements for years 2006 to 2008. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics and ratio analysis. The results revealed that there was a significant increase in capital base of banks in the Nigerian banking industry after the consolidation exercise from N970.77b in 2005 to N2, 589.03 in 2008. The study concluded that a capital reform has no significant effect on performance of troubled banks in Nigeria.
